"MyData is both an alternative vision and guiding technical principles for how we, as individuals, can have more control over the data trails we leave behind us in our everyday actions. The core idea is that we, you and I, should have an easy way to see where data about us goes, specify who can use it, and alter these decisions over time." - mydata.org
Circle Pass is a service that enables individuals to securely access, manage and use their personal data, as well as to control the flow of personal data with, and between, data sources and data using services enabling connectivity and secure sharing of data between applications.
We strongly believe this is a vision for the future of internet application architecture, when it comes to user accounts and users data. As Circle Pass we are building a federated user identity and data management service, where individuals are in full control of their identity, data and connections and access to their data.
Circle Pass is part of ecosystemOS architecture by Startup Commons Global that is working closely with local, national and regional governments, around the world, to help build, develop, digitally connect, visualize and benchmark startup ecosystems for the growth of entrepreneurship and innovation.
Throughout our work over 10 years, we have come to realize in practise, that individuals are the only logical party to be able to move important data between different organization and services.
Without user in center (and in control) there is no other as effective and logical way to enable user data portability between services. This is both due technical challenges between multiple different services, ie. something like Circle Pass in between, "acting like middleware" is needed, as well as regulatory rules like GDPR in Europe, on moving individual related data between organizations ie. most typically requires individuals authorization.
In our past approach, we had build entire digital ecosystem infrastructure in a single application approach, but eventually it grow too big and complex that started to create limitations for flexibility and data management. As world have developed much further with API economy, serverless architectures and GDPR coming to effect in 2018 in Europe, we feel "My data" model is the future and the timing to commit to this approach is now.
For us this means that in our work in Startup Commons we will build all our own work, future development, recommendations, policies and software based on "My Data" approach and we look forward being an active contributor in MyData movement.
